nativity原意是“出生”
The Nativity是宗教用语,当它大写,有定冠词的时候就特指耶稣降生.全称就是The Nativity of Jesus.
耶稣降生的过程只有《路加福音》和《马太福音》中有记载,其中并没有注明时间与季节.至于Christmas后来被用作纪念耶稣诞辰的节日,这是圣经中不存在的.圣诞节前夕,西方国家的学校通常组织小孩演出耶稣降生的场景（尽管《路加福音》和《马太福音》中记载有出入）,而这种戏剧就叫做Nativity Play.
