I was told yesterday that his name is Tom.或 ,someone yesterday told me (that ) his name is Tom .都对,I was told…… 是“我被告诉了……”,即有人告诉我…,此处不强调具体的哪一个人,所以用被动语态较好.即第一句较好.关于为什么用is 而不用was ,是因为“他的名字永远叫Tom ”,于(yesterday 昨天)时间无关,换言之,凡表示永远不变的情况,都用一般现在时态.（表示经常发生的动作或状态）例如：she will tomorrow tell me his name is Tom ;she always tells me his name is Tom（她明天将告诉我他的名字叫Tom ,她经常告诉我他的名字叫Tom ) .再举一例：100 years ago,Michael said that the earth goes round the sun.today the earth still goes round the sun and so does the Jupiter in the future for ever.(100年前Michael 就说过地球绕着太阳转,今天,地球仍然绕着太阳转,木星在将来也永远绕着太阳转.）（go 动词的第三人称[地球earth ]在英语中用goes )
