If you’re a book lover, shooting a gun and *wielding a sword to do mindless killing in a video game may not be your sort of entertainment. But if a video game can give you the same experience as reading a story, would you be equally hooked?
Gone Home was one of the most acclaimed video games of 2013.Created by The Fullbright Company, the “story exploration” game lets you play 21-year-old Kaitlin Greenbriar who has returned from a one-year trip to Europe to the new home her parents and sister recently moved into. But instead of a big family welcome, she arrives to an empty house and a mysterious note taped to the door.
The story *unfolds as Kaitlin picks up *scraps of paper, notes, letters and photos *littering the house.Sam,Kaitlin’s younger sister,is really the center of the story. She tells the story of the game by narrating a series of diary entries in voice-over.
Steve Mullis, tech writer for the NPR,played the game and is deeply impressed.Through these storytelling elements the player learns a lot about the Greenbriar family and what’s going on in their lives. But Mullis says the game “also respects the player, much as a really great book respects the intelligent reader,in that it lets you put a lot of the pieces of the Greenbriar puzzle together for yourself and form many of your own conclusions”.
Mullis calls the game a piece of interactive short fiction that “*weaves its touching story with such *deft and narrative grace that it is hard not to be sucked in immediately”.
The relationship between literature and video games is close.Players in video games experience and respond to a *scenario much like readers do to a literary text.Michael Abbott, who teaches theater at Wabash College in the US,explains in an interview with the BBC that games “can truly do something that no other storytelling can do — they put us in a situation where we’re both the audience and the playwright”.
Gone Home is not the only game that uses literary tricks to hook its players. The Walking Dead, based on the popular US TV series,is another game with a complicated storyline. And like in a good novel, characters in the game are confronted with tough moral choices.Players have to decide, for example, whether a character should abandon another to die.
But Gone Home is unique in that there are no monsters to kill or cars to race.It is heavily text-based.Not a game for those who love action,it nevertheless opens a new frontier for video games. It shows that video games can no longer be simply labeled — they can be intense and *adrenaline-*inducing as well as *subtle and intellectual.

THE CONNECTION OF GAME AND BOOK
As most of us think, games and books couldn't have anything in common.Games are exciting;or even violent.;but books, are peaceful, pleasant and subtle. But GONE HOME makes a change.
Games,as well as books, can be edcational, beautiful and pleasant. To think deeply, reading a book is like playing a game.We both realx ourselves by doing them; besides, games sometimes are like life,we must face challenges and solve the problems.Meanwhile,a good game can bring you to another world. That is what the GONE HOME tells us.
